Mixing Colours

I love these rustic pieces.  They have very simple lines but they make a great statement in your home.

One of my favourite things is when I get to mix my paints to make custom colours.  Using Annie Sloan Chalk Paint, I mixed Napoleonic Blue and Barcelona to make this great navy colour.  The teal is a mixture of Graphite, French Linen, Provence and Arles. Both colours were waxed using a 1/2 and 1/2 mixture of clear and dark wax.

I wanted to leave a lot of the pine showing, so the frames of the doors were left in their original unpainted condition.  I also added pine backing to the entire piece and dark waxed the pine.

I had so much fun doing this piece!

8 Foot Garage Find!

8 Foot Garage Find!

This may be one of my best finds ever.  When I saw this listed for sale I knew I had to have it. When we went to pick it up it was in the gentleman’s garage. He told us it had belonged to his wife’s grandparents.  It was covered in grey shiny paint…the ENTIRE thing!

I could see a lot of sanding ahead, but that was ok because I knew it had great potential.

I thought about painting it cream, but instead I wanted it to have a bit more personality. I created a custom colour with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint mixing Provence, Graphite, French Linen and Arles. That’s my favourite part of painting, mixing my own colours!  I love how it turned out.  In fact, it’s the most popular post I’ve ever had on my FB page!

This 8 foot kitchen island turned out exactly like I had envisioned. 🙂

Grandpa’s Gift

When Kyla contacted me about doing this cabinet, and I heard the story behind it, I absolutely had to do it for her!

kyla1

This was made by her grandfather from the crib she used to sleep in as a baby and he had made it for her when she was a young girl…what a wonderful gift from a grandfather to his granddaughter.  Kyla requested a grey/blue colour to update it so she could use it in her decor.  I used a custom colour mixed from ASCP Paris Grey, Old White and Duck Egg Blue.

While I was painting, I couldn’t stop thinking of how much joy he must have felt while building this, and how special it must be to her.  This is definitely a piece that will be passed down.

I was so happy to do this for you Kyla!

Blah Brown to Beautiful Layering

I picked up this chair at a yard sale and could see it’s potential.  It has great lines and detailing, but the colour was dreadful.  Brown on brown…it needed a facelift!  I’ve painted a chair in the past with Annie Sloan chalk paint and knew it would work on this one as well.

The entire chair was painted with Coco first and then the wood was done with layers of Paris Grey and Old White.
I also did a wash of Paris Grey over the Coco on the seat and back just to lighten it up a bit and it was distressed to give it that worn look.

The entire piece was clear and dark waxed.

When it was done I thought it needed some more interest on the seat and back so I added the grain sack stripes in Paris Grey and Old White.  And it’s done!!

**I love creating something new from something old**

I love this colour combination…Much better than the brown!

Pretty Persian Blue

When Judith emailed me to see if I wanted to purchase this desk I immediately replied “YES”! She had a friend in Toronto who wanted to sell it and would even deliver it to her. I just had to go pick it up nearby.

I love the shape and size of this desk. And I knew the perfect colour I would use…General Finishes Persian Bue. I love this colour! The piece had peeling veneer which I ended up taking off and it needed some TLC but I love the result.

Hard work always pays off…

Here are some before and afters.

Abbey’s Antique White Bedroom

Abbey is a lucky little girl.  A friend GAVE this set to her mom Sarah…wow, what a nice friend!  Sarah and the family are moving today to a cottage on 12 acres and this set will be put in a bedroom that has pine walls.  It is going to look wonderful!  Sarah knew she wanted it white for that fresh clean look.

I can’t wait to see pictures of the set @ home.  Thanks Sarah and family for letting me do such an important piece!

Here are some before and afters.
